The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) is once again warning citizens about the growing activity of fraudsters using online platforms for deception.  Cases of fraud on social networks like Telegram and WhatsApp are particularly widespread, the NBT press center says. 

“Fraudsters often call their victims, posing as employees of commercial organizations, and promise help with obtaining loans or quick money.  During the conversation, they may ask for your bank card number, password, or CVV code, citing the need to update data or warn about potential attempts to steal funds.  The fraudsters may also send suspicious files via messengers,” the statement says.

The country’s financial regulator strongly advises being cautious in such situations and never providing your bank details over the phone or the internet.

NBT emphasizes that financial institutions never offer their services via social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, or Telegram.

Moreover, the NBT notes that the bank does not issue licenses or certificates for individuals to carry out operations.

The National Bank urges citizens to be more vigilant and not to trust false offers, especially if they involve transferring money to bank cards provided by fraudsters.

This is not the first warning from the NBT.  In December 2024, the bank already alerted the public about fraudulent announcements being circulated by scammers on behalf of the NBT via social networks.  These announcements had no connection to the actual actions of the bank.

It is also worth noting that recently, fraudsters have been using the names of major companies and well-known individuals, including the brands Toyota, Beko, as well as banks Escheat, Amonatbonk, Dushanbe City Bank, and even the names of the president and the mayor of Dushanbe, to deceive citizens.

Earlier, a fake website was also discovered, which allegedly, on behalf of Asia-Plus news agency spread false information and offered dubious services.  The site claimed that the National Bank of Tajikistan was suing actress Tahmina Rajabova for an interview with popular blogger Yodgor Islombekov.
