Kazakhstan is ready to expand exports to Tajikistan in 85 product categories worth up to US$200 million, Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Kuantyrov announced during talks with Sultan Rahimzoda, Chairman of Tajikistan’s State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), according to the Kazakh MFA press center.

The meeting took place in Astana as part of the 19th session of the Kazakhstan–Tajikistan Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Kuantyrov emphasized that bilateral trade turnover between the two countries grew by 7.4% in 2024, reaching $1.3 billion, and that both governments are targeting US$2 billion in annual trade.  He also pointed to rising momentum in railway transport, with freight volumes increasing 8% last year to 5.1 million tons, and road freight growing by 45% to 494,000 tons.

“Conditions are in place to elevate economic cooperation to a new level — growing trade turnover, business readiness for cooperation, and mutual understanding at the state leadership level,” Kuantyrov said, expressing confidence in future growth not only in trade but also in joint investment projects.

Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and logistics, including potential deliveries of Kazakh railway equipment to Tajikistan.  Special attention was given to joint projects in free and special economic zones, particularly in flour milling, confectionery production, vegetable oil processing, livestock product processing, and juice manufacturing.

Kazakhstan remains one of Tajikistan’s key economic partners and ranks among its top four investors, with cumulative investments exceeding US$146 million.

Rahimzoda stressed the strategic importance of strengthening ties with Kazakhstan, noting high levels of trust and stable economic growth in bilateral relations.

The Kazakh side invited Tajikistan to participate in the Kazakhstan Global Investment Roundtable (KGIR) on October 31 this year, while Tajikistan extended an invitation for Kazakh representatives to attend its investment forum in Dushanbe the same month.
