DUSHANBE, August 18, Asia-Plus - Fighters managed to extinguished a fire that broke out in the compound of an oil reservation in the Titov Street in Dushanbe, near the airport, yesterday afternoon, and prevent possible powerful blast.
If the fire were to then spread to oil tanks then a powerful explosion could take place, according to firefighters.
The Tajik firefighting service chief Nazar Jangiyev has told Asia-Plus that they received call about the fire at 1:15 p.m., and 12 firefighting crews were sent to the site of the fire. “The fire was localized and extinguished already in 25 minutes, and 30 tons of fuel were saved” Mr. Jangiyev said.
According to him, the cause of the fire is under investigation. “However, it has been found out that fire broke out during refueling of one of gasoline-carrying vehicles,” said Jangiyev, “The vehicle caught fire; fortunately, no casualties were reported.”
At present a special commission is working in the site of the fire to assess an actual volume of damage caused by the fire.
