DUSHANBE, August 18, Asia-Plus -- Five persons were killed and at least two other were injured as two cars “VAZ-2106” collided near the city of Qurghon Teppa on August 17, according to information from Tajik traffic police.
The accident took place yesterday afternoon in a rural area of the Kolkhozobod district.
“VAZ-2106” driven by a 31-year-old Suhrob Safarov moving from Kolkhozobod to Qurghon Teppa appeared to have gone into oncoming and collided with another “VAZ-2106” driven by Mahmad Saidhalimov. As a result of the collision, both driver and three passengers of the car driven by Suhrob Safarov died on the spot. Two other passengers received serious injured and were taken to the central city hospital in Qurghon Teppa.
The other fatal accident took place on the 159th kilometer of the highway from Dushanbe to Khujand, on one of sections of the Shahriston pass. A car “Daewoo” fell into a 400-meter precipice. The driver and one of passengers died on the spot and two other passengers with serious injures were taken to the central district hospital in Ayni.
868 traffic accidents have been reported in Tajikistan since the beginning of the year. 260 people have been killed and 439 others have been injured in those accidents.
