ISFARA, January 10, Asia-Plus -- New details have emerged on effects of the earthquake that hit Tajikistan on January 8. 

The tremor affected dozens of residential building in the jamoats of Surkh, Chorkuh and Vorukh, as well as the KIM settlement in the northern district of Isfara.  The quake also damaged administrative buildings of the coalmine Shurob in the district.  

Iqbol Teshayev, a spokesman for the Isfara mayor’s office, said in an interview with Asia-plus that today morning, they received some 60 applications about tremor-affected houses in the Vorukh jamoat.  “Besides, the tremor partially damaged 30 residential buildings in Surkh and 40 in Chorkuh,” Teshayev said.   

According to him, the mayor’s office has also received such applications from residents of the KIM settlement.  “The quake also caused a considerable damage to administrative buildings of the coalmine in the Shurob settlement,” the spokesman said.   

A special commission has visited the tremor-hit areas to monitor the situation and assess the actual volume of damage caused by the disaster.
