DUSHANBE, December 7, 2009, Asia-Plus -- A highway from Dushanbe to Khujand has been reopened for traffic after its 12-kilometer section, hit by a series of avalanches, has been cleared of snow, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC).
We will recall that more than 20 avalanches occurred in the area near the Anzob Tunnel from Thursday (December 3) until Friday (December 4) morning, blocking a 12-kilometer section of the Dushanbe-Khujand highway, from the 62nd to the 74th kilometer. Some 150 vehicles were reportedly trapped by avalanches.
The source at a MoTC said that snow-removing operation had been completed by Saturday (December) evening. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
