Twenty-one avalanches, nine mudflows and four rockfalls were reported in some areas of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) last Sunday (March 28) aloe, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.
Avalanches, mudflows and rockfalls have reportedly been reported in Vanj, Rushan, Shugnan, Roshtqala, Ishkashim and Murgab districts of the region.
As a result, Vanj-Rushan, Khorog-Ishkashim and Khorog-Murgab roads have been temporarily closed for traffic.
No injured and no destruction were reported, according to the source.
The Ministry of Transport has provided special machines and the work on clearing roads of snow and rocks is underway.
All subunits of the Emergencies Committee have been put on alert and its rescuers are continuing round-the-clock duty on the country’s main mountain highways.
Warmer temperatures have increased the risk of further avalanches in the country, and people are advised not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily.
