The Emergences Committee under the Government of Tajikistan says five persons were killed and at least sixteen other injured in a strong earthquake that hit the Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan) in the morning of July 10. 

Five residents of Langari Shoh village in Tojikobod district – Firdavs Mirzoshoyev, 14, Ayoziddin Kukanov, 7, Turon Mahmadulloyev, 60, Robiya Bululova, 4, and Qadriddin Boymurodov, 16 – were killed in the quake.  

An earthquake measuring 5.0-6.0 on a Richter scale reportedly struck the Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan) in the morning of July 10..

The quake was centered in the area 165 kilometers northeast of Dushanbe and 12 kilometers east of the Rasht district, according to the Emergencies Committee


According to the preliminary data, the tremor affected 29 residential buildings in the village of Langari Shah in Sairchashma jamoat of Tojikobod district:  seven residential building were destroyed completely; ten other residential buildings were damaged partially; and 12 other residential buildings were damaged slightly.  

The emergency management agency for Rasht district says 14 residential buildings in the district were destroyed completely and 131 other houses were damaged partially.  In Askalon jamoat alone, 53 residential buildings were reportedly affected by a Saturday’s quake.


In Khairon village of Sangvor district, the quake reportedly affected two residential buildings; one of them was destroyed completely and another one was damaged partially.       

A government commission is currently working in the area to assess the actual damage caused by the earthquake.
