Warmer temperatures have increased the risk of further avalanches in mountain areas of Tajikistan, where dozens of snow-slides have occurred over the past several days.
The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan says avalanches that occurred in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) yesterday caused damages to the Roshtqala and Shugnan districts.
In the Roshtqala district, the avalanche that occurred at 10:15 am reportedly destroyed completely two houses in Shodi village and damaged 100 meters of road and about 350-400 meters of the power transmission line.
No injured was reported.
In the Shugnan district, the avalanche destroyed a cattle shed and killed three head of goats.
No injured was reported, according to the Emergencies Committee.
Torrential rain on March 17 caused a rise in water level in a small river in Yori village, which subordinate to the city of Panjakent in the Sughd province. As a result, a bridge abutment was damaged.
Today morning, at about 5:30 am, a landslide occurred in Yakhchikul are in the Shamsiddin-Shohin district of the Khatlon province, blocking the Dushanbe-Kulob-Darvoz-Khorog highway.
A rockfall that occurred today early in the morning, at about 2:00 am Porshkharv village in GBAO’s Darvoz district blocked the Dushanbe-Kulob-Darvoz-Khorog highway.
Natural disasters reportedly also blocked in some places the Kulob-Qalai Khumb, Qalai Khumb-Vanj, and Vanj-Khorog roads.
The Emergencies Committee advises people not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily.
