Citing weather forecasters, the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan warns that avalanches are expected in mountainous areas of the country in the coming days.

According to data of the Hydrometeorology Center (Hydromet), today there will be variable cloudiness in districts subordinate to the center and sleet and fog are expected in some districts.

In plains, daytime temperatures will fluctuate from +9ºC to +14ºC and in mountain areas, daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from +3ºC to +8ºC.

In Dushanbe, variable cloudiness is expected; a light rain is expected at night and in daytime, temperatures will warm up to +12ºC -- +14ºC.

In Sughd province, the weather will be partly cloudy and sleet is expected in some districts.  In plains, daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from +5ºC to +10ºC.

In Khatlon province, precipitation is expected today.  Rain is expected at times during the day in Khalton’s capital, Bokhtar.   Daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate in the province from +10ºC to +15ºC.

Hydromet says no precipitation is expected in Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region, or GBAO.  In the western part of GBAO, daytime temperatures are from +6ºC to +11ºC.  In GBAO’s capital, Khorog, day temperatures are from +8ºC to +10ºC.  In the eastern part of GBAO, daytime temperatures are from -5ºC to 0ºC.

The Emergencies Committee warns that relatively warm air temperatures and rain may lead to avalanches in mountain areas and advises people not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily.

Mountains cover 93 percent of Tajikistan’s territory, and avalanches and mudslides kill dozens of people every year.
