In the Khuroson district of Tajikistan, on the Dushanbe – Bokhtar highway, a major accident occurred, as a result of which one person was killed and nine injured, including the driver.
According to the State Committee for Emergency Situations of the republic, the accident occurred on August 18 at 10:30 local time.
It is noted that a Hino truck driven by a 33-year-old resident of the Vakhsh district of the Khatlon region collided with several cars standing on the side of the road.
The cause of the accident was a brake failure, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. An investigation is underway into the incident.
"The driver suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalized in a regional hospital. Eight other people were injured, who were also taken to the hospital, one of them died on the spot. In total, seven vehicles were seriously damaged in the accident," the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted.
In connection with this incident, the agency urges drivers to check the technical condition of their vehicles before leaving, comply with traffic rules and speed limits.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, 539 road accidents occurred in Tajikistan in the first half of this year (492 in January-June 2023). As a result of these incidents, 236 people were killed and 570 were injured.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of incidents increased by 11.8%, the number of injured – by 13.3%, and the dead – by 22.3%.
The main causes of accidents are speeding (58.6%), driving into the oncoming lane (25%), violation of traffic rules (10%) and other types of violations, including intoxication (7%).
