Authorities in the northern city of Isfara have detained a 51-year-old man on charges of child abuse after he allegedly beat his two young grandsons, aged five and seven.

According to the Sughd Police Directorate , the incident took place in mid-June.  The suspect, identified as Homid Madaminov, reportedly used a rubber hose to strike the children.  The boys had been left in the care of their grandparents by their mother, who was temporarily absent.

Police say Madaminov confessed to the assault during questioning, claiming he was intoxicated at the time and unaware of his actions.  The motive behind the violence has not been disclosed.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the suspect, who remains in pre-trial custody as the investigation continues.

This case in Isfara follows a similar incident reported earlier in the southern province of Khatlon, where a grandmother was arrested for violently assaulting her grandchildren.

A disturbing video shared on social media showed a woman leading several children — aged between three and seven — into a house and beating them with a stick.  The footage captured the children crying, lying on the floor, and pleading with her to stop.

The video sparked widespread outrage online, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.  Police launched an investigation and subsequently detained Oynagul Jonmirzoyeva, born in 1970 and a resident of Madaniyat village in the Jaloliddin-Balkhi district.

Authorities stated at the time that the motive behind the woman’s actions was still under investigation.
