A tragic traffic accident involving a wedding convoy on the Danghara–Sarband highway in Khatlon province has claimed the lives of four people and left four others seriously injured.

Davronbek Musoyev, deputy chief physician at the Sarband Central Hospital, told Asia-Plus in an interview that all four of the deceased were close relatives of the groom. Four additional individuals sustained severe injuries in the crash.

The wedding convoy was en route on December 27, traveling from Vose district to Jaloliddin-Balkhi district to collect the bride. Preliminary reports suggest that an electric vehicle from the convoy collided head-on with a Lexus traveling in the opposite direction. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The driver and three passengers of the electric vehicle -- 17-year-old Subhon Safari, 42-year-old Nour Shamsiddinov, and 15-year-old Hafiza Shamsiddinova, all of them are relatives of the groom -- died at the scene. All of the victims were residents of Vose district.

The passengers in the Lexus sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital for emergency care.
