DUSAHNBE, April 17, Asia-Plus - Since the beginning of they year 1,145 young people involved (both those recruiting and those recruited into the sex trade) in the sex trade inside the republic have been detained in Tajikistan, Interior Ministry Khumdin Sharipov remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 17.
According to him, the majority of individuals recruited into the sex trade inside the republic are jobless and children from vulnerable families.
The minister says 20 cases of trafficking persons to other countries have been reported in the republic over the past three months. “Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the traffickers,” Khumdin Sharipov said, noting that the majority of them have already been convicted and are serving their sentences in jails.
Yesterday alone, the country’s law enforcement agencies warded off three attempts of trafficking local young women abroad,” said the minister, “Two cases were reported in Khujand and one other in the Sino district of Dushanbe.”
