QURGHON TEPPA, February 15, Asia-Plus - A presentation of a Report on Corruption in Tajikistan (A Public Opinion Survey) with participation of representatives from president’s executive office was held in Qurghon Teppa yesterday.
The poll was conducted among 2,000 people, representing various categories of Tajikistan’s population.
The Corruption Survey Report was produced by the Center for Strategic Studies and the United Nations Development Program. The goal of the Survey was to ascertain public opinion on the relevance and acuteness of corruption in Tajikistan. Interviews and focus groups’ discussions were held in order: to identify the impact which corruption has on the development of state and private sectors as well as on the general efficiency of government; to assess of public perception of corruption in the country; to study of public''s tolerance of and participation in corruptive behavior and to identify the interrelation of poverty and corruption;
During the presentation it was noted that corruption has a range of negative effects on Tajikistan’s development and significantly hampers business activity and economic development.
