DUSHANBE, May 15, Asia-Plus -- Chinese national Chen Chong Wei (phonetically spelled, director general of closed joint-stock company, Novy Karyer (New Quarry), which is located in Sughd’s Spitamen district, is charged with evading the payment of taxes, Asia-Plus has learned at the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption.
A source at the anticorruption agency said that criminal proceedings had been instituted against Mr. Chen under the provisions of Article 292, Part 2 – evading payment or collection of taxes from legal entity.
Mr. Chen purchased the company in 2006 and he has not paid taxes for a total amount of 411,203 somonis so far, according to him.
“Mr. Chen also works with the unit for implementation of the project for rehabilitation of the Dushanbe-Khujand-Chanak project,” said the source, “He told the anticorruption officers that the president of Tajikistan had exempted him from paying taxes and ignored the officers’ explanations that his company is exempted only from paying value added tax (VAT).”
Criminal proceedings have also been instituted against Abdulvahhob Abduqayumov, chief accountant with Novy Karyer.
