KHUJAND, December 30, 2008, Asia-Plus -- On Tuesday December 29, officers from the Sughd customs service detained a Kyrgyz national who was trying to smuggle consignment of pyrotechnics into the province.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the deputy chief of the Sughd customs service Musayam Qodirov said that customs officers in the Jabborrasulov district had confiscated 46 skyrockets from the Kyrgyz national.
In all, 18 attempts of smuggling pyrotechnics into Sughd were stopped by local customs officers lately and 413,000 various pyrotechnic devices such as safe matches, oxygen candles, firecrackers, petards and skyrockets were confiscated.
Four criminal proceedings have been instituted in Sughd on the pyrotechnics smuggling charges, Qodirov said.
