KHUJAND, August 10, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Young woman from Bobojnghafruov district in Sughd province has been sentenced to jail for killing her newborn baby.
The court in the city of Qairoqqum ruled on August 9 that the 23-year-old R.H. be given three years in prison. The sentence followed her conviction on the charge of killing of baby by mother during labor or immediately after that (Article 105 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).
Ms. Gulchehra Ghoibnazarova, an aide to the Qairoqqum prosecutor, told Asia-Plus yesterday that investigation has established that R.H. gave birth to baby in early April this year out of wedlock. “Fearing publicity, she came to her sister in the city of Qairoqqum, where she killed her newborn baby. She left the baby in the balcony, until he died of cold,” the prosecutor said.
“R.H. has another child and the punishment is deferred until her child is eight,” Ghoibnazarova added.
