DUSHANBE, March 30, 2011, Asia-Plus -- An illegal gambling hall has reportedly been shut down at one of restaurants in Dushanbe, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The source at a MoI says resident of Roudaki district, T.A., 33, has been detained for illegal installation of eleven gambling machines at one of restaurants in Dushanbe.
“Besides, a certain amount of money, which is material evidence, has also been confiscated,” he added. Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
Tajikistan’s legislation now prohibits casinos and other gambling joints in the country. The Tajik Penal Code criminalizes activities related to the gambling industry. Such activities are punishable by up to eight years in jail.
