Tajik civil rights advocate Oynikhol Bobonazarova was informed that Sadriddin Toshev, also known as Kori Sadriddin, who is serving his sentence in of the Dushanbe correctional facilities, was beaten by one of the correctional officers.
“I immediately met with senior correctional officials of the Tajik Justice Ministry to explain the situation and get their comments. General Izzatullo Sharipov promised to set up a commission to carry out internal investigation. He is also going to meet with the inmate and listen to his version,” Bobonazarova said in a telephone conversation with AP.
She said she also met with the accused correctional officer who denied the fact of beating the inmate. “According to the information available, the correctional officer started to search Toshev and then beat him up. The officer now claims his right to search the inmates at any time, but Toshev began to protest. The officer also denied that he beat the inmate,” Bobonazarova has said.
