Senior detectives from the Shokhmansur Police Department, who were accused by prisoners of torturing inmates, faced particular decision. At the same time, the judge did not named those who faced the decision.
On Monday, April 16th, the Shokhmansur regional court passed its verdict against three prisoners at the bar who claimed to be tortured by the police after their arrest. All three were accused of theft. Lawyer from the “Independent Human Rights Center” public organization Shoira Davlatova, who observed the trial, the court sentenced Bahtovar Kakhorov and Iskanderhon Murtazoev to 3.5 years in a high security prison, while Umedjon Mirzoev got 2.5 year imprisonment.
“Judge Jaloliddin Azizi passed a particular decision against senior detectives from the Shokhmansur Police Department who were accused of torturing the inmates. However, the judge did not named those who will face the court’s decision,” Davlatova has said.
At the same time, Director of the Independent Human Rights Center Sergei Romanov said that the organization will provide further assistance to the lawyer and his clients in terms of preparation of their appeal.
“As soon as we get the copy of the verdict and particular decision we also plan to provide additional information, including information for the media about our disagreement with the verdict together with the justification of our position. But even now we can say that the court ignored testimonies of some witnesses and the statement of the defendants about Umedjon Mirzoev’s guiltiness,” Romanov said.
He stressed that the organization will continue to urge competent authorities to launch careful investigation of the claimed tortures and finally punish all responsible persons.
