The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today endorsed amendments proposed by the government to the country’s law on the procedure and conditions of detention of suspects, accused and defendants.
The amendments, in particular, prohibits holding adult and juvenile suspects in one cell.
Earlier Tajikistan’s legislation had allowed holding juvenile suspects and adults suspected of committing minor crimes in one cell.
The amendments also provide that juvenile detainee can file a complaint to the detention facility administration if torture was used against him.
