Two residents of the city of Nurek in the southern Khatlon province have been detained on suspicion of manufacturing and selling counterfeit United States currency. 

According to the Interior Ministry’s website, two young men, 23 and 17 years old, were detained in Nurek on April 19 on suspicion of selling counterfeit U.S. dollars.  

They reportedly received 78 counterfeit 100-dollar banknotes from a 28-year-old resident of Nurek and were going to sell them to two residents of Nurek.   

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against them and an investigation is under way.
