Customs officers at New Delhi airport detained two passengers of the Dushanbe - Delhi flight: During the inspection, almost 5.5 kg of gold was seized from them. This was reported on the X network (former Twitter) by the airport customs.

"As a result of a thorough check and personal search of passengers, Indian customs seized 5,488 grams of gold worth 2.73 lacs of Indian rupees from one Russian and a citizen of Tajikistan who arrived in New Delhi from Dushanbe. Both have been arrested and further investigations are currently underway," the statement said.

2.73 lakh Indian rupees is about $330 thousand.

Other details, including the names of the detainees, how they managed to smuggle such a large shipment of gold, when the detention occurred, are not given in the message.

Flights from Dushanbe to Delhi are operated by “Somon Air” on Mondays and Thursdays. The last flight on this route took place on August 31.
