DUSHANBE, January 24, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Tajik Ambassador to Pakistan Zubaidullo Zubaydov met with Pakistan’s Senate Chairman Farooq Hamid Naek in Islamabad at the end of last week, according to the Tajik FMA information department.
An upcoming state visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to Pakistan was among major topics of the meeting.
Farooq Hamid Naek expressed satisfaction with the level of development of relations between he two countries and pointed out the significance of further expansion bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Tajikistan, including cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. Pakistani parliament speaker offered to intensify exchange of parliamentary groups and expressed readiness to receive leadership of the Majlisi Oli (Tajikistan’s parliament) in Islamabad, the source said.
The federal and supreme legislative body of Pakistan is Majlis-e-Shoora (Council of Advisors). It is bicameral federal legislature of Pakistan that consists of the Senate (upper house) and the National Assembly (lower house). According to Article 50 of the Constitution of Pakistan, the Council also includes the President of Pakistan.
On Friday January 21, Tajik ambassador also met with Pakistani Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Pakistani minister highly appraised relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan and pointed to the necessity of intensification of work of the joint intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation and expansion of cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.
Both sides expressed readiness for cooperation in combating international terrorism and other challenges and threats to threats to modern world.
