DUSHANBE, June 28, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to pay a visit to Tajikistan late in August in a bid to meet his Tajik counterpart and inaugurate several joint economic projects in the Central Asian state, Fars News Agency (FNA) quoted Iranian ambassador to Tajikistan as saying on June 27.
“During his two day visit to Tajikistan, Mr. Ahmadinejad will meet his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon and participate in the inauguration of the first hydro-electric generator of Sangtuda-2 dam and power plant,” Tehran''s Ambassador to Dushanbe Ali Asghar Sherdoust told FNA.
Also during the trip, energy swap among Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan as well as the construction of a power transmission line to Iran via Afghanistan will be discussed and finalized, he added.
The diplomat added that the two countries are also due to sign documents of agreements on the transit of goods and rail and road transportations.
Sherdoust further mentioned that the final agreement on the construction of Ayni dam and power plant will also be signed during President Ahmadinejad''s visit to Dushanbe.
The initial documents of Ayni dam and power plant project were signed earlier by the Iranian and Tajik energy ministers, he added.
Iran and Tajikistan have recently accelerated expansion of their ties and cooperation and observers believe that the good achievements gained in area of their mutual cooperation should be deemed as a result of the efforts made by the two countries'' officials.
