The visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed satisfaction over the results of Tajik-Russian talks.
“I’m satisfied with the results of the talks,” Lavrov told the reporters following his meeting with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon. However, he said, there are issues that need to be settled.
Russian Foreign Minister said he met with the Tajik President to discuss the whole range of bilateral relations, regional issues and situation in Afghanistan.
When asked about economic relations between the countries, Lavrov said that the two countries are satisfied with current level of economic relations.
He said the two countries have agreed to activate the activity of the intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation. “We decided to more actively involve regions of our countries. Today we signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation between economic entities of Russian Federation and provinces of Tajikistan,” he said.
“Emomali Rahmon outlined good relations in such spheres as trade, telecommunication, energy and investments. And, of course, we are interested to strengthen these relations and we have all required opportunities to do that.”
Commenting on hydroenergy cooperation, which, according to Lavrov, is one of the most perspective spheres of bilateral cooperation, Russian Foreign Minister said Russia is interested in construction of three hydropower plants on Tajikistan’s internal rivers.
