DUSHANBE, August 24, 2012, Asia-Plus -- The board of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) has strongly condemned “a cowardly murder of one of informal leaders of Gorno Badakhshan, Imomnazar Imomnazarov.”
A statement released by IRP’s board on July 23, in particular, notes that Imomnazar Imomnazarov made a considerable contribution to stabilization of the situation in the region after the launch of a special operation in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
“He managed to persuade young people to lay down weapons, and to create a good atmosphere for conducting negotiations. He was the first to surrender arms,” the statement said.
“Using the opportunity, the forces that do not wish peace in Tajikistan killed Imomnazarov and destabilized the situation in the region again, and thereby, they made the population doubt the peaceful settlement of the situation.”
IRP’s board calls on the authorities to detain the murderers of Imomnazar Imomnazarov and bring them to justice as soon as possible in order to provide peace and supremacy of law in the region.
The statement also notes that IRP’s board supports an initiative of reconciliation in Gorno Badakhshan and considers that continuation of dialogue and peaceful solution to the problems is the only way of settling the issue.
