DUSHANBE, May 16, 2013, Asia-Plus  -- The numbers of the ruling People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT) are continuing to grow.

“Sixteen Chernobyl cleanup operation participants from the Hamadoni district and seventy participants of the Soviet war in Afghanistan living in Hamadoni have joined the People’s Democratic Party this month alone,” Adham Mirsaidov, the head of the PDPT center for analysis and propagation told Asia-Plus in an interview.

We will recall that 25 players and other members of the popular Ravshan Kulob club joined the PDPT in a special ceremony in October last year.

Founded in 1993, the People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting more than 200,000 registered members.  President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party. The PDPT now controls some 65 percent of the seats in parliament (45 of 63 seats).
