DUSHANBE, May 28, 2013, Asia-Plus  -- The primary organization of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) for the northern city of Khujand yesterday held a meeting to hear reports and elect new officials, according to IRP’s headquarters in Dushanbe.

The meeting reportedly elected the board of the IRP organization for Khujand, which consists of eleven persons, including three women.

Acting chairman of the IRP organization for Khujand, Numonjon Ochilov, was elected to head the organization.

Numonjon Ochilov says the IRP organization for Khujand now has 1,032 members, with 40 percent of them being women.

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991.  It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  Its official newspaper is Najot (Salvation).  According to some sources, IRP now has some 50,000 members.  It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections.  The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.
