DUSHANBE, June 4, 2013, Asia-Plus  -- A delegation of Tajik ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) attended the 2013 special session of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) that took place in Xi’an, China on May 30-31, Adham Mirsaidov, the head of the PDP Propagation and Analysis Center, said.

“A delegation of our party, led by PDP deputy leader Asror Latipov, attended the special session of the ICAPP that was held under the theme of “Promote Green Development and Build a Beautiful Asia Together,” Mirsaidov noted.

According to him, representatives of 57 political parties from Asia, Latin America and Africa attended the two-day event that aimed to discuss ways to promote sustainable development of Asia.

The session participants reportedly noted that green development is the trend of world development and a new platform for cooperation among political parties and Asian countries should attach importance to environmental protection, energy reservation and reasonable consumption issues.

The International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) is a forum of political parties of Asia-Oceania countries, which was launched in Manila Philippines in September 2000. The objectives of the conference are to promote exchanges and cooperation between political parties from different countries in the area and with various ideologies; to enhance mutual understanding and trust among Asian countries; to promote Asia''s regional cooperation through the unique role and channel of political parties; and to create an environment for sustained peace and shared prosperity in the region.

Founded in 1993, the People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting 210,000 registered members.  President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party.  The PDPT now controls some 65 percent of the seats in parliament (45 of 63 seats).
