DUSHANBE, October 9, 2013, Asia-Plus -- A meeting of the Council of national Coordinators of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member nations opened in Dushanbe on October 9, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The meeting is being held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the SCO secretary general is also attending the meeting.         

The Council of National Coordinators coordinates the multilateral cooperation of member states within the framework of the SCO''s charter.

We will recall that Tajikistan has assumed rotating SCO presidency.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization or SCO is an intergovernmental mutual-security organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.  Except for Uzbekistan, the other countries had been members of the Shanghai Five, founded in 1996; after the inclusion of Uzbekistan in 2001, the members renamed the organization.
