The Kyrgyz capital Bishkek will host the CIS Jubilee Summit on September 16.

The Bishkek meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State is expected to discuss 13 draft documents related to political, security and humanitarian cooperation between the CIS nations.

According to the CIS Executive Committee, the summit participants will sign declarations of the CIS heads of state on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the 70th anniversary of the judgment of the Nuremberg Trial.  

Besides, the presidents of the CIS nations will discuss issues related to adaption of the CIS to modern realities in the context of increase in efficiency of activities of the CIS charter and sectoral institutions.

They will also discuss preparations for the 2020 round of population census and expansion of cooperation between regions of the CIS member nations.   

The summit is also expected to adopt the program of cooperation between the CIS nations in fighting terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism designed for 2017-2019 and the program of cooperation between the CIS nations in combating cybercrimes designed for 2016-2020.

Established on December 8, 1991 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is a regional organization.  It now consists of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.  Georgia pulled out of the organization in 2009.
