Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday had a telephone conversation with President-elect of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, according to Tajik president’s official website.
Rahmon congratulated Mirziyoyev on his convincing victory in Uzbekistan’s presidential election and wished him success in his important state office for the benefit of the friendly Uzbekistan.
Rahmon and Mirziyoyev reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of expansion of bilateral cooperation between their countries.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev (born July 24, 1957) is an Uzbek politician who had been Prime Minister of Uzbekistan since 2003. Following the death of President Islam Karimov, who ruled Uzbekistan who ruled Uzbekistan for a quarter-century until his death three months ago, Mirziyoyev was appointed by the Supreme Assembly as interim President of Uzbekistan on September 8, 2016. On December 5, 2016, Mirziyoyev was declared Uzbekistan's 2nd President, after winning 88.61% of the vote in the Uzbekistani presidential election, 2016.
