Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday sent a message of congratulations to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Tajikistan membership in the United Nations, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
In his message, Emomali Rahmon, in particular, noted that Tajikistan highly appreciates the historically significant role of the United Nations in reestablishing peace, stability and national accord in Tajikistan.
“Over the past years, Tajikistan has used opportunities of this global tribune to put forward topical initiatives meeting needs of the whole humanity, especially in the water sphere,” Tajik leader noted
For his part, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres says that the United Nations appreciates Tajikistan official authorities’ support for the United Nations activities.

UN Security Council unanimously accepted in its session a resolution with regard to the General Assembly's recommendation to accept the Republic of Tajikistan to the membership of the Organization on January 29, 1992. On March 2, 1992, the Resolution 46/224 unanimously was adopted with regard to acceptance of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN at the 46th Session of UN GA. The country's joining to Nations Community laid fundamental basis for development of its cooperation with the specialized organizations and institutions of UN.
The UN has been present in Tajikistan since 1992, commencing with the UN Tajikistan Office for Peace-building (UNTOP), which ended its mission in October 2007. Since 1993, the UN has increased its presence to 21 specialized agencies, funds and programs of the UN and World Bank. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and International Finance Corporation are also active in Tajikistan and working closely with the UN Country Team (UNCT).
The coordination of the UNCT is facilitated through the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator (RCO), whose main function is to support the UNCT through the coordination and analytical assistance as well as joint UNCT programming opportunities.
