On Tuesday April 11, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Dr. Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the two sides discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations agencies active in the country. Currently, 23 programs of agencies of the Unite Nations are operating in Tajikistan.
President Rahmon, in particular, noted that the UN agencies, including the United Nations Development Programme, had played significant role in the process of reestablishment of peace and national accord in Tajikistan.
Dr. Pratibha Mehta, for her part, highly appraised international initiatives of Tajik leader regarding solution of global problems, especially his firm stance on implementation of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the website said.
They also discussed issues related to implementation of regional energy projects, rational use of water-and-energy resources and common access to electricity.
The sides reportedly expressed confidence that UNDP would support Tajikistan in implementation of its National Development Strategy 2016–2030 and the medium-term development program designed for 2016-2020, which is the first phase of the National Development Strategy 2016–2030.
UNDP Tajikistan works in partnership with the Government of Tajikistan and plays an active part to harmonize the efforts of all the UN agencies active in the country. The development work of the UN agencies in Tajikistan is regulated by the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
UNDP’s goal is to support the Government of Tajikistan in the coordination of development initiatives, the public finance management, the delivery of core public services and the planning and decision-making.
