Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has called on members of his party to assess the situation in the country and in the world realistically.  

The People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT), which is the ruling party of Tajikistan, held its plenum in Dushanbe on February 16.

Presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, who is leader of the party, the plenum took place in the government residence in Dushanbe.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the plenum participants included members of the government, speakers of both houses of parliament, parliamentarians and heads of regions, cities and districts.

The overwhelming majority of members of the government and the parliament are members of the Tajik ruling party.  

The plenum reportedly discussed the results of the party’s activities in 2017 and tasks for 2018.  

A special focus was given to work with electorate, prevention of the radicalization of youth and fostering patriotism among the young generation. 


Addressing the plenum, Emomali Rahmon noted that the party should act taking into consideration the complicated situation in the world and assess the current situation in the country and in the world realistically.  

Founded in 1994, the People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting more than 480,000 registered members.  President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party.  According to the PDP Central Committee, youth make 40 percent of the party members.

At the legislative elections, February 27 and March 13, 2005, the party won 74% of the popular vote and 52 out of 63 seats (74 percent of the popular vote).  This was an increase from the 2000 elections, in which they won 64.9% of the vote and 38 seats.  At the legislative elections, February 28, 2010, the party won 71.69% of the popular vote and 45 out of 63 seats.

At the last legislative election, March 1, 2015, the PDP won 65.4 percent of the vote and 51 out of 63 seats.
