The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Tajikistan, John Mark Pommersheim, has visited Tajik Parliament and held talks with Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament).

In the course of the talks, they discussed issues related inter-parliamentary, economic, educational cultural and security cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States, Navrouz Qurbonzoda, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, told Asia-Plus in an interviews.

They reportedly also exchanged views on a number of regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan.

Noting the military presence of the United States in Afghanistan for keeping the peace, Ubaidulloyev noted that establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan will serve to ensure peace in the region and the world, Qurbonzoda said.

Tajik parliament speaker reportedly also emphasized the desirability of allocation of additional student quota for Tajikistan as well as retraining of Tajik specialists in the United States.

For his part, Ambassador Pommersheim said that he will do everything in his power to promote further expansion of cooperation between Dushanbe and Washington, Qurbonzoda added.
