The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin on August 21 had a telephone conversation with the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany in political, security and humanitarian spheres.

Sirojiddin and Maas reportedly also discussed cooperation between the two countries within international and region organizations and expressed interest in further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany.  

The two stressed the need to pay more attention to strengthening the border and the capacity of law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan, the Tajik MFA information department said.

The parties also exchanged views on issues related to the latest developments in Afghanistan and providing regional security.

Taking into consideration unstable and difficult military-political situation in the neighboring country and the common border of the Central Asian countries with Afghanistan, the parties stressed the importance of strengthening and expanding cooperation in order to take effective measures against security threats, including terrorism, extremism, radicalism and drug trafficking, the Tajik MFA information department noted.

The foreign ministers of the two countries reputedly agreed on necessity of expanding multifaceted cooperation, regular contacts and developing relationships using the different European Union platforms and other formats of international and regional cooperation.
