Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian met in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Tuesday (January 24) to discuss cooperation issues, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 26th Meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers that took place in Uzbekistan’s capital earlier on Tuesday.

In the course of the talks, the parties reportedly exchanged views on the state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral multifaceted mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, as well as cooperation within the framework of regional and international organizations.

The delegations of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkiye, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan (host) participated in the meeting. 

The ECO Secretary-General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri also attended the meeting.   

According to the ECO’s official website, the ECO foreign ministers’ meeting reviewed previous activities of the ECO as well as approved some fresh proposals as recommended by the senior officials who met on January 23, 2023.

Moreover, the meeting adopted “Tashkent Communique” that focusses on enhanced regional cooperation and collaboration amongst the Member States.  The document further endorses ECO activities being undertaken to increase global visibility of the Organization as well as its working partnerships with other regional and international institutions.
