The president’s official website reports that the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted at a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe Friday (July 5) morning that “Although Tajikistan is a small country, it nevertheless plays an outstanding role in the activities of the United Nations UN and the activities of international community as a whole.”  

Mr. Guterres arrived in Dushanbe in the evening of July 4 on a two-day visit as part of his tour of Central Asia’s.  He has already visited Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.  

In the course of the talks, Tajik leader and UN head reportedly discussed achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), implementation of the Dushanbe Declaration of the High-Level Water Action Decade Conference and implementation of National Development Strategy of Tajikistan for the period to 20230, 

In this regard, the need for the reform of international financial system was recognized to ensure sustainable financing and to solve problems related to climate change.  Tajikistan reportedly provided support for UN efforts to ensure sustainable development, strengthen peace and security, develop science and technologies, including digitalization. 

It was reportedly emphasized that Tajikistan fully supports the efforts of the international community to find ways to reduce the negative consequences of climate change.  

Touching upon the issue of providing regional security, the parties spoke in favor of a joint response to the growing threats of terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, drug trafficking and other global threats, the Tajik president’s official website added.
