On Tuesday July 30, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, who arrived in Tehran to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Initially, Tajik leader reportedly congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian on the occasion of the beginning of his activities as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and wished him success.

Emomali Rahmon also invited Masoud Pezeshkian to pay an official visit to Tajikistan at his convenience.

The President of Tajikistan reportedly expressed confidence that the two countries will continue to develop mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of mutual understanding, respect and trust.

In the course of the talks, both parties expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, health, science, education and cultural sectors and noted that this fruitful process should continue in future.

The fivefold increase in trade turnover in recent years was reportedly called a reflection of the great potential that exists in trade and economic cooperation between the two fraternal countries.

In this context, it was considered necessary to ensure the active work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation and the effective use of the Joint Investment Committee and the Joint Council of Entrepreneurs of the two countries.

Both parties expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the water, energy, oil and gas sectors, as well as in the fields of nanotechnology and attracting investments in these areas, the Tajik president’s official website noted.

The Tajik side reportedly expressed interest in the effective use of the capabilities of the ports of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar for the transportation of Tajikistan’s goods and products.

The parties called the abolition of the visa regime for mutual travel between the two countries for up to 30 days an important event and expressed confidence that this step will actively contribute to the development of tourism and, in general, ties between the peoples of the two countries.

Issues of strengthening cooperation in jointly addressing modern challenges and threats, including terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime and cybercrime, were also an important topic of conversation.

The heads of the two states also discussed certain international and regional topics being of mutual interest.

On the same day, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met in Tehran with the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
