During a working visit to Doha, the capital of Qatar, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on October 2 met with several high-ranking Qatari officials to discuss expanding cooperation in investment sectors, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
In a meeting with Lolwah Al-Khater, Deputy Chairperson of the Qatar Fund for Development, President Rahmon reportedly suggested creating a joint economic and investment fund to finance key development projects in Tajikistan.
The Tajik president’s official website says Emomali Rahmon welcomed the participation of Qatari investors in strengthening and expanding Tajikistan's tourism and pharmaceutical infrastructure. He reportedly described Qatar as one of Tajikistan’s key trade and economic partners and expressed hope for deeper cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development.
The discussions also covered potential Qatari investments in Tajikistan’s energy, industry, agriculture, and mineral extraction sectors, as well as the production of eco-friendly agricultural products.
Additionally, Tajik leader met with Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar International Islamic Bank.
They reportedly reviewed the current state of cooperation and explored opportunities for collaboration between Tajikistan and the financial institution. Special emphasis was placed on attracting Qatari investments into Tajikistan’s economy, including joint projects in trade, tourism, and environmental protection.
Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani, who has visited Tajikistan several times, reportedly expressed his willingness to invest in promising sectors of the economy.
During a meeting with Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, the focus was on trade and investment opportunities, with both sides emphasizing the need to utilize available resources and opportunities for the benefit of both nations.
Emomali Rahmon arrived in Qatar’s capital, Doha, on October 2 to participate in the Third Asia Cooperation Dialogue Summit.
