The 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member nations took place Islamabad, Pakistan with participation of Tajikistan’s Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda.
The heads of government and delegations of Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part in the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG).
The meeting reportedly began with a meeting between Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and the heads of delegations.
The meeting discussed ongoing cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, environment, socio-cultural linkages and review the performance of the Organization. The meeting participants reportedly adopted important organizational decisions to further enhance cooperation among SCO member States and approve the budget of the Organization.
The SCO CHG meeting is held annually, concentrating on economic cooperation and trade issues.
The Council of Heads of Government is the second-highest council in the Organization. This council also holds annual summits, at which time members discuss issues of multilateral cooperation and approves the organization's budget.[
Established by China and Russia in 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a Eurasian political, economic, international security and defense organization. It is the world's largest regional organization in terms of geographic scope and population, covering approximately 24% of the area of world (65% of Eurasia)[3] and 42% of the world population. As of 2024, its combined nominal GDP accounts for around 23%, while its GDP based on PPP comprises approximately 36% of the world's total.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization currently has ten full members -- China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Iran and Belarus.
Besides, Mongolia and Afghanistan are observer countries (Afghanistan is inactive since September 2021).
SCO’s dialogue partners include Sri Lanka, Turkiye, Cambodia, Azerbaijan, Nepal, Armenia, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain.
ACEAN, CIS, Turkmenistan and the United Nations are guest attendances.
