On December 18, 2024, Tajikistan’s ruling People's Democratic Party (PDPT) held its latest congress. Unlike President Emomali Rahmon, who was reelected as the party's chairman, all his deputies were replaced.
Mr. Maliksho Nematzoda was elected First Deputy Chairman of the PDPT, replacing Mr. Abdujabbor Azizi.
Ms. Umeda Abdullozoda was elected Deputy Chairperson of the PDPT, replacing Ms. Khairinisso Yusufi, and Mirzoqosim Karimzoda was appointed Deputy Chairman of the PDPT, replacing Asror Latifzoda.
Maliksho Nematzoda is perhaps the best-known of the newly elected deputies of Emomali Rahmon in the PDPT, having previously held high-ranking government positions.
Prior to being elected as first deputy chairman of the party, he had served as Chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan since November 22, 2020.
From January 1 through November 21 of 2020, Nematzoda served as Mayor of Nurek City.
In 2018-2019, he headed the Local Government Coordination Department at President's Executive Office.
From 2014 to2018, Nematzoda served as Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Germany. His mandate was also extended the Czech republic and Poland.
From 2007 to 2014, he headed the Committee for Youth and Sports’ Affairs.
From 2001 to 2007, Nematzoda held various positions in President’s Executive Office.
Maliksho Nematzoda was born on February 11, 1969 in the city of Kulob. He graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Languages, Pashtu Language in 1994. In 2005, he graduated from the Tajik tax and Law Institute, and in 2009, he graduated from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation.
Maliksho Nematzoda is married with three children
Prior to being elected Deputy Chairperson of the PDPT, Ms. Umeda Abdullozoda has served as Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan since 2021.
From 2014 to 2020, she served as Deputy Mayor of Hisor City.
Ms. Umeda Abdullozoda was born on February 14, 1984 in the city of Hisor. She graduated from the Faculty of Tajik Philology in 2007. She has Scientific Degree of Candidate of Sciences in Philology.
Prior to being elected Deputy Chairman of the PDPT, Mr. Mirzoqosim Karimzoda had served as Chairman of the PDPT’s Organization in Sughd Province since June 2023.
From 2018 to May 2023, Karimzoda served as Head of the Sughd Directorate for Youth Affairs.
Mirzoqosim Karimzoda was born on September 17, 1984 in the city of Khujand, the capital of Sughd province.
He graduated from the Khujand-based University of Law, Business and Politics in 2011 – Degree in International Law.
The PDPT is the only political party in Tajikistan that has its offices in Dushanbe and in a number of cities and districts of the country.
The party now has its offices in eighteen cities and districts across the country. In some districts, the party rents buildings for its district organizations.
The PDPT organizing committee was established in 1993, and the party itself was established on December 10, 1994. Until April 1998, it was called the People's Party of Tajikistan.
The party stands for a secular state and society (secularism).
The People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting more than 900,000 registered members. President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party.
The party has its branches in all regions and largest settlements of Tajikistan. The youth wing of the party is called the Sozandagoni Vatan (Creators of the Motherland).
At the latest legislative elections that took place on March 1, 2020, the PDPT won 65.4 percent of the vote and 51 out of 63 seats.
At the previous parliamentary elections, March 1, 2015, the ruling party won 65.4 percent of the vote and 51 out of 63 seats. At the legislative elections that took place on February 28, 2010, the PDPT won 71.69% of the popular vote and 45 out of 63 seats. At the parliamentary elections that took place on February 27, 2005, the PDPT won 74% of the popular vote and 52 out of 63 seats (74 percent of the popular vote). This was an increase from the 2000 elections, in which they won 64.9% of the vote and 38 seats.
The People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan has bilateral cooperation with foreign political parties including the Russia's ruling party United Russia, with the ruling Nur Otan in Kazakhstan, with the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, and with the Communist Party of China.
