On March 19, the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) approved the draft law on the ratification of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border demarcation agreement in three readings, AKIpress reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Kamchybek Tashiyev served as the speaker on this issue, presenting maps to the lawmakers and discussing the exchanged sections of the border with Tajikistan.

The agreement was ratified with 85 votes in favor and 1 vote against (Sultanbay Aizhigitov). A total of 86 deputies were registered, the publication noted.

The parliament also ratified agreements between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the construction and use of highways, as well as the arrangement of road intersections, and an agreement between the Kyrgyz government and Tajikistan on access to water management and energy facilities.

It is worth noting that a day earlier, on March 18, Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) ratified the state border agreement between the two countries.

On March 13, Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon and Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov signed the final agreement on the state border between the two countries in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek.

Additionally, with the participation of the two heads of state, two border crossing points (BCPs) were officially opened, marking the lifting of border restrictions that had been in place for over four years.
