DUSHANBE, May 24, Asia-Plus -- At present a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with representatives from various sections of the population is currently going on at the Kokhi Borbad State Complex in Dushanbe.
The meeting is dedicated to discuss issues related to regulation of traditions and rituals practiced by population and school festivities.
We will recall that during his meeting with representatives from Tajik intelligentsia in March, President Emomali Rahmon expressed concern about the "pompous" and "excessive luxury" of school festivities. He ordered a ban on the use of cell phones and private cars at high schools.
In recent years, end-of-the-year graduation celebrations have become elaborate and lavish, with wealthy families spending sizable sums to buy teenagers new dresses and suits, renting limousines and restaurants and ballrooms for parties — a trend made all the more jarring given Tajikistan''s widespread poverty.
The president also pointed to the necessity of regulating traditions and rituals practiced by the population.
Representatives from all cities and districts of the country are attending the meeting.
