DUSHANBE, June 2, Asia-Plus  -- On Monday June 2, President Emomali Rahmon met with senior representatives of the law enforcement agencies, power-wielding structures, and other relevant organizations and institutions to review efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking in the country, as well as rationally use water resources and speed up construction of Sangtuda-1 and Sangtuda-2 power plants, according to presidential press service.

The meeting participants also discussed issues related to preparations for winter and ensuring regular work of the country’s economy during autumn-winter 2008-2009.  

Heads of the law enforcement agencies each briefed Rahmon on their agencies’ efforts to combat and prosecute criminal cases connected with organized crime.  The meeting, in particular, heard a report by the Drug Control Agency director Rustam Nazarov on the drug situation in the country and efforts taken to combat drug trafficking, the press service said. 

The president demanded at the meeting that appropriate measures should be taken to provide security during holding of a summit meeting of heads of member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Dushanbe.

“The Ministry of Energy ad Industries (MoEI) is to speed up the pace of construction of Sangtuda-1 and Sangtuda-2 power plants and take measures to ensure introduction of the second unit of the Sangtuda-1 station in to operation this month,” said presidential press service.  “The Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources (MLRWR) is to provide farming units with water in good time and take measures to ensure rational use of water.”

Emomali Rahmon ordered all relevant state agencies and ministries to take measures to strengthen discipline in the power-wielding structures and law enforcement agencies.
