DUSHANBE. June 9. “Asia-Plus” -- Water resources are being irrationally used allover the world, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke at the High-Level International Conference on the medium-term overview of the process of implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Life” for 2005-2015 in Dushanbe.

He noted that the use of water has doubled nowadays and this is the direct result of its irrational use.

“People must understand the importance of water and its role in their lives. Agriculture of many countries suffers from water shortages. As for energy, Iran urges to use alternative energy sources apart from water resources. These are wind, solar and nuclear energy,” Iranian leader said, adding that the majority of problems occur as a result of greenhouse gas emissions produced by developed countries.

“These countries do not want to invest into other energy sources even though they have all required funds and technologies that may help reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” he said.

“Iran has made a big step in the use and consumption of clear water and created cheap technology for the use and processing of water resources which is based on nanotechnologies and is ready to offer this technology to other countries,” Ahmadinejad said.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon urged conference participants to refrain from emotional speeches and resounding statements. He also urged the participants to use experiences of those countries which used to settle the issue of transboundary water use in peaceful manner.

“We need to organize roundtables to settle all transboundary issues in a peaceful manner,” he said.
