DUSHANBE, June 14, 2011, Asia-Plus - On June 13 President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the visiting group of deputies of the German Bundestag headed by Dagmar Enkelman, chairman of the German-Central Asian parliamentary group.
The sides have discussed Tajikistan’s cooperation with Germany and European Union, President’s press service reported.
According to the source, the sides have expressed confidence that with support from EU and the global community countries of the region are able to reduce poverty, unemployment and settle current water and energy misunderstandings.
During the meeting special attention was given to the issues of democratization of society, protection of human rights and freedoms and strengthening of the fight against global challenges.
On Monday the Bundestag delegation also met with the Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi.
According to Tajik Foreign Ministry’s Department of Information, Mr. Zarifi has expressed Tajikistan’s position on a series of issues, including cooperation between Tajikistan and the Federal Republic of Germany, situation in Afghanistan, regional importance of a series of energy projects in Tajikistan, development of transport infrastructure in the region and ecological issues.
